Bone inlay
The state of Rajasthan in India is renowned for its Bone Inlay furniture, which is created through a difficult technique that involves a great deal of talent and practise. Within a family, the expertise is passed down from generation to generation. Camel bone is obtained in the first process of manufacturing bone inlay furniture, and pieces are hand-carved to give them a delicate contour. The bone pieces are then glued to the wooden furniture frame to form elaborate designs. The spaces around the bone are filled in the third and final process, generally with a coloured resin background. Animals are not harmed in the production of bone inlay furniture.
